THE TRENDS YOU’LL BE WEARING IN 2012

Dolce & Gabbana 2012 Runway

You are, literally, what you eat this season. Tomatoes, plums and tangerines, you name it – they wore it at Dolce & Gabbana’s final collection for Spring / Summer 2012.

Fruit and veg are this years’ pattern of choice, with catwalk models sashaying down the catwalk in a cocktail of fruity dresses.

The models looked exuberant in a vibrant summer palette and showed off tiny waists in corseted crop tops teamed with tulip shaped midi-skirts.

The fifties housewife made a return with pretty midi-dresses adorned with colourful foods and vintage style brooches.

While last year bird prints were all the rage, bona fide fashionista’s will be getting their five-a-day via summer dresses and pyjama pants in the upcoming season.

Neon and sheer garments are set to become huge next season too, with neon jumpers layered under sheer peplum dresses and pastel tights for a futuristic feel.

High street store Topshop has already got to grips with the trend, with their SS12 collection featuring an array of pastel coloured leggings, sheer blouses and mesh dresses.

Feminine and flirty pieces are set to make a comeback and ladies will get to play dress up by mixing their favourite day dresses with ladylike heels and bold, playful accessories.

Kate Moss stole the show at Louis Vuitton’s SS12 runway shoe sporting this ultra girly white lace and feathered dress, a cutesy hairband and ladylike shoes.

The oversized Peter Pan collars, in-out waist to hip silhouette and frilly sweet accessories make me proud to be a girl.

High street store River Island also has a few exciting collections up their perfectly stylish sleeves, creating embellished corset and pencil skirt sets that embrace the sexy silhouettes seen on the runway.

Bloomers are no longer seen as something your gran would wear, patterned bloomer shorts are paired with matching corset tops and bold accessories for the ultimate statement look.

Designers poked fun at the recession by creating wicker basket handbags and eccentric earrings made from pasta shapes. Austerity has never looked so glamorous.

Colour and print are your requisite wardrobe essentials for the upcoming season.

Dress head-to-toe in vivacious shades of sugared pink and tangerine for an uplifted look.

Making a statement has never been so crucial than it is this year.

Push the boundaries by layering leather, lace, neon and sheer fabrics all at the one time.

Fashion for 2012 is supremely self-indulgent. So don’t be afraid to clash all your favourite looks at once.

You might even want to call it – re-invention.

2012 hot picks!

Embellished corset and skirt set, SS12 at River Island, Creepers by Underground £98, Peach skinny jeans £38, Floral corset top £30, all Topshop. Pink denim shorts, SS12 at River Island, PVC Clutch bag, £205 at Marni.
